Spring Summer fashion trends 2009

 

This spring and summer, there are so many different styles, with so many different designers and collections. Clothes are in many different colours, from bold primary colours, to juicy and acid tones to neutrals. There are so many beautiful prints to choose from. But what are the key trends for spring and summer and how can you adapt these trends to suit your wardrobe?

The one shouldered dress - The one shouldered dress is inspired by Greek Goddess dresses and togas. It was seen on the catwalk at Valention, Pucci, Zac Posen, Calvin Klein and Celine. The assymetrical style and diagonal lines are very flattering. A great style for summer parties and functions with a more formal long style or shorter style for a fresher look.

 

Nautical - Navy separates and stripes are a classic summer look. This seasons take on this trend is inspired by Club Med. It combines the traditional stripes and high waisted trousers with a touch of red with a relaxed and slouchy feel. This look was seen at Marc Jacobs, D&G and Michael Kors.

 

The Styles

 

The Tulip Skirt - The tulip skirt has been around for  a few seasons now. For spring and summer 09, there are a full range of eye popping bright colours.

 

The Layered Skirt - Sheer, diaphonous layers of material layered in varying lengths were seen on the spring summer 09 catwalks most noteably at Marni but also Christopher Kane and Chanel.

  

The Harem Pants - the harem pants are another trend that has been rumbling on for a few seasons now. This season see the harem pants many different guises including tailored and patterned. A different look to pull off but for those who manage it, an amazing one.

 

The Tapered Pants - This style of trouser is likely to be the most widely seen on the high street this spring and summer. A great look for semi smart occassions, work or with killer heels for the evening.

 

The Skinny Trousers - A new style of trousers for spring summer 09, the skinny trousers are even skinnier than before. In fact they are a kind of hybrid between trousers and leggings and have been nicknamed treggings.

 

The Pyjama Trousers - As seen on the catwalk at Marni, Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana, the Pyjama style of trousers is loose fitting and relaxed with polka dots or stripes on satin fabrics.

  

The Prints

 

Floral Prints - These are a summer staple. This summer, they are every where ffrom the tiny ditsy floral, to the over sized floral, the retro floral and the delicate pastel florals. There is definitely something for everyone.

 

Animal Prints - At Lanvin, the leopard prints were in cool pink and black. This is  afresh look to the traditional print and great pattern for accessories. Animal prints were also key features in the Junya Watanabe shows.

 

Graphical / Optical Prints - Alexander McQueen pixelated prints are huge news this year, with bright bold primary coloured prints being the order of the day.

 

African/ Tribal Prints - Earthy  tones of green, yellow, brown and orange and soft flowing materials were key to the bold and African inspired prints that were so popular on the catwalk for this season. This look was seen at Junya Watanabe, Pucci, Kenzo, Missoni and Roberto Cavalli. 

 

 

The Colours

  

Primary Colours - Reds, Yellows and blues are everywhere this season. Josh Goot really worked the block colour look on the catwalk. Other bright colour enthusiasts for this season included Alexader Wang, Chloe, Matthew Williamson and Lanvin. They were also lots of bright colours incorporated into patterns and prints this season..

 

 

Acid Colours- juicy oranges, neon greens, day glo yellows and electric blues are the order of the day this summer. The really brave can go for all over bright or a multi colour neons. Those looking for a more subtle look can accessorise or find clothes with accents or trims in acid colours.
