Be a Stylish Mum Becoming a mum is probably one of the most rewarding and defining moments in your life. But as I know from experience, along with the patter of tiny feet comes a whole host of challenges in the style department. As any new mum knows, a new baby becomes the number one priority in your life and after being up the night you often don't have the time or energy to concentrate on how you look. The universal mummy uniform of tracky bottoms and hoody is comfy and practical for crawling around the softplay with children but does nothing for you in the style department. One of the biggest style challenges for mums is practicality. whilst those Christian Louboutin shoes look great, they won't last 2 minutes when walking the children to school and this seasons clutch may be a must have but how do you clutch it whilst holding a baby or pushing a pram. Being a stylish mum is all about compromise - You can still look and feel great but you need to carefully consider your outfits. Shoes need to be easy to walk in, handbags easy to carry, all clothing machine washable and easy to move in and accessories should not be a strangling hazard or too easy for a small child to pull off and eat. Breastfeeding is one of the best things you can do for your new baby however it makes choosing a stylish outfit a monumentous task. Many clothes are simply not practical due to their inaccessbility and breast feeding bras are often not the most flattering underwear. Most women love having a bit more clevage than usual but cannot show it off with anything more low cut than a polo neck for fear of exposing their hammock like bra. I would advise any new mum, that has made the very positive decision to breast feed their baby to invest in some really lovely underwear to make them look and feel great during the first few months of their babies life. Most mums wear jeans all the time. There is nothing wrong with this and they are certainly practical. It is probably worth investing a really well fitting pair of jeans that you love and can be worn for almost any occassion. Another key issue for mums is lack of time. In the rush to get children to school or nursery in the morning, choosing the right outfit and accessories just doesn't happen. Here are a few style tips for when time is in short supply: Try to choose and layout an outfit the night before making quick and easy to get dressed in the morning. Try to get a good capsule wardrobe making it quicker and easier to choose a stylish outfit that is easy to wear. Get a really stylish coat or jacket and pair of boots. You and put them on for the school run and look great whatever you are wearing underneath.
Finally a huge issue for some mums is self esteem. For many women becoming a mum is accompanied by a huge change in identity. Giving up work, a change in lifestyle, putting on weight and a change in body shape can all have a severe impact on confidence. It is really important that you take time out and get time to really be yourself. Even if you spend most of your time at home with baby sick down your shoulder, you should still find time to go for a girls night out or meal with your partner regularly. You should also make time for regular haircuts and make a effort to get dressed in your most stylish outfit even if it is for coffee with friends, a childrens birthday party or a wander round the shops. Remember you should never feel guilty about taking time to make yourself feel happy, a happy mum makes happy children. |
